Omnipresent

Sonrise

Almighty, Omnipotent
All knowing, Omniscient

Both describing our heavenly Father, the Creator of all things. But hard to truly comprehend a Being that knows everything. We all know people that know a lot of stuff, we’ve seen Jeopardy champions, and we even hold most of the world’s knowledge in the palm of our hand, as close as a google search. But everything? From the beginning of time on earth to the end?

One adjective that rarely makes it into praise songs is “Omnipresent”. Mostly because it is hard to rhyme and not as bold as ALMIGHTY! (Try rhyming its synonym: Ubiquitous)

Omnipresent : Present at all places at all times.

It reminds me of what my colleagues think of me when they have a problem, or when Mom needs to be at soccer practice, dance class and karate at the same time.

I was going through my morning routine, wiping a night of troubled sleep from my eyes, taking the dog out for her morning routine. On a crisp February morning, clear skies, temperature in the mid-30s, I was greeted by a pink horizon exploding into the dark blue of the night sky. A whispering breeze brushed my face as to say, “Be still, breathe in My peace.” Then a gentle reminder of a scripture ran through my mind.

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:41-42

A story of Martha who opened her home to Jesus and his entourage, probably many more than the 12. She was fussing about doing all the work while her sister Mary sat at the Lord’s feet, listening.

My ears rang with “You worry about many things when only one is needed.” I took a refreshing deep breath and we had a talk.

I offered prayers for friends, family, my wife, my daughter, (and even the guy that will love her heart and take her away from me someday). A calming peace came over me saying, “I’ve got this, I hold them all in My arms.”

I paused in total awe. I was speaking with the Creator of the Universe. He was concerned with my meager issues. He knows the hearts of billions and cares for all things living, growing, breathing or simply being. Bit who am I that you would take time to talk to me?

“What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?Psalm 8:4

How can God be everywhere, in everything, in every heart?

We rationalize and try to understand things from our point of reference, our understanding of time and space. But God is not restrained by time or space. He was there long before us and will be long after us. Eternity is a great word, but impossible to understand with our limited knowledge. Perhaps it is much more than we could fathom anyway.

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you” Jeremiah 1:5
“Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered” Luke 12:7

God knows us even down to the hairs on our heads (for some of us, the counting of hairs is bit easier of a task). He longs for a relationship with us, yes, we tiny, foolish, failing humans.

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27

Almighty God, who is everything and everywhere, is as close as our next tear, our next breath, our next prayer. A hard truth to digest, but truth is truth whether I understand it or not.

What an Awesome God.

He knows when I rise and when I fall.
And He loves me anyway.

Grateful that I am
Blessed in Great Measure
