Love More Every Day

Pink RoseSpringtime brings April showers, May flowers, and weddings. In the flurry of pre-wedding preparations, there is rarely time to take a breath, it just starts and then it is over. This child that we watched grow up, went from a cute little girl in jeans and sneakers, to a stunning beauty in lace and white sparkles, just like that.

As the church began to fill, a few show up that rarely see the inside of a church door. Freshly pressed jackets and ladies in their finest dresses, just waiting for an occasion like this.

The music starts, the mother of the bride is escorted in, glowing in shimmering green. Sisters of the bride follow, adorned in flowing gowns like petals of pink roses. Flower girls tootle along like little white goslings in a line. The music pauses and the bride appears. The groom’s eyes shine as he sees his bride, this vision of loveliness walking towards him. A song, a prayer, repeated vows, exchange of rings, a kiss and their new life begins together. Just like that.

I recall a young girl with butter blonde hair, a sweet smile and kind eyes, full of wonder. As she emerged from her first kiss as a new wife, her eyes were just as kind, her smile just as sweet. A childhood dream fulfilled, yet peering into a future with a new set of dreams, with someone to share them with.

I remember that same look in my wife’s eyes some 30+ years ago. And each dream fulfilled sprung forth a new set of dreams; first house, first baby, first day of school, first day of college…  Each step led to the next.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Jeremiah 29:11

We have seen God’s plans come to fruition over and over. I pray that after 30 years, the new couple will see that as well, and “love each other more every day” is more than just words to a song, as it has been for us.

And that we all will be
Blessed in Great Measure
