Re-Cover

A series of tough days and a springtime clock shift made this feeble flesh endure the effects of six decades on this earth. Spiritual heartbeats left my inner self exhausted at just mere moments at the feet of the Master. I cannot imagine looking on His face.

And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.” Exodus 33:19-20

The closest humans have come is the face of Jesus, the Son of God, the Word made flesh. If I had lived 2,000 years ago and based on my moments of intense closeness to Him, I would need time to recover, as I do now.

Jesus would spend days on days teaching, healing, and feeling power leave His body, then withdraw to quiet places to commune with His Father, to recover and be restored. My physical, mental, and spiritual expenditures pale in comparison, but it is comforting to know Jesus, with the Power of the Almighty at His fingertips, still needed time to recuperate.

After Jesus spent 40 days being tempted:

… the devil left him, and angels came and attended him. Matthew 4:11

And again, in Gethsemane:

He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. Luke 22:41-42

Angels attend to Him and to us. My brother was once treated by a nurse whose features seemed somewhat out of place, whose name was Ava Maria. Nurse-angel or real-angel? Probably both.

In my times of need I withdraw to quiet spaces and approach our Heavenly Father for healing, wholeness and recommitting my life into His Hands. I arise to find I am covered and re-covered by His healing waters, a re-baptizing, a reminder that I am a child of God, I am still His.
